Zinc is no Remedy

Sense of smell is too important to loose

By: Dr. Alan R Hirsch MD

Zinc cold remedies can permanently damage sense of smell after just one use, says Alan R. Hirsch, MD. Nasal gels containing zinc can damage the nerve at the top of the nose. Some people recover at least part of their sense of smell after discontinuing zinc nasal gels, but it may take five years or more. Possibly helpful to restore sense of smell: Vitamins B-1 and folic acid-but studies are not conclusive.
